Advent Blog Hop - Day 12!

Hello and welcome to day 12 of Jo's Online Advent Calendar!

Today I share with you the ornament I stitched this year for my Christmas tree!

Each year I try to stitch at least one ornament to add to the tree, slowly but surely it is filling up!

This year Jo asked us to tell you a story about the food we enjoy at Christmas.

We are quite the traditional type when it comes to Christmas dinner, we have turkey with all the trimmings! But no Christmas dinner would be complete without...

My Nana's Recipe Yorkshire Puddings!

Now I know that most of you in the UK will know exactly what these are, but I am curious, do those overseas not have this wonder in their lives?!

They are very simple, the batter is flour (MUST be plain), milk, a little water and egg. Whisk it all together to make a batter. While you are doing this heat up some lard (another must) in a cake tin in the oven. This needs to be HOT HOT HOT for the puddings to rise correctly, it should be smoking a little before you place the batter in. Once you have poured the batter in to the tray place in the oven (quickly!) and do not (!!!) open the door again until they are ready.

et voila, beautiful Yorkshire Puddings!

Happy Christmas everyone! xoxox

I ordered Yorkshire pudding thinking it was going to be a local dessert!!! Picture my face when I got this massive plate of food instead of a cake :D I did eat it (of course!) & it was delicious!

  14. Hello Emma!
Excuse me it have taken me a little while for visting your lovely blog!
If I would not have red the famous Veterinay James Herriots books I would not ever have guessed what the Puddings are. They look more like sweet baked buns or other sweet treat you love have with coffee or tea.

At the James Herriots books about being a veterinary at Yokshires country side the Puddings are served many times !!!

    With my best Greetings,
    Maija from snowy Finland

  16. Love your Santa ornament, nice job!
We've tried making Yorkshire pudding here in the States, but it never turns out right. I think it's the flour because the sponge cake never turns out the same either - bummer. But after seeing your picture, I'm willing to try again, it's been way too long!

  19. Hi Emma, Yes, down in OZ we know all about Yorkshire puddings. I don't make them often as I prefer roast lamb to roast beef but I do remember the first time my son had one he called them New York puddings (he was only young) so that is what they have been in my house ever since!
